With Mom’s special day fast approaching, students at the Van Derveer Elementary School have been busy writing short essays about their mothers, grandmothers and other special ladies in their lives, hoping their essay will be selected a winner in a contest sponsored by the Somerville Business & Professional Association.
Working in conjunction with the Somerville Education Foundation, special forms with directions have been distributed throughout the school to all 800 students in grades K-5.
It asks the question;” Who is One of Your Special Ladies and Why?”
The contest requires students to provide an answer in 50 words or less.
Winners will be announced May 8 at 6 p.m. on the steps of
The United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in downtown Somerville. Winners must be present to claims their prizes.
Prizes include a variety of merchandise and gift cards from merchants who are members of the SPBA as well as gift baskets and 4 tickets to a July 5th Somerset Patriots game with fireworks.
Several downtown Somerville restaurants will also be offering dinner specials for mom and the whole family that night and throughout Mother’s Day weekend.
