Santa Claus is coming to town
for the Somerville Holiday Jubilee Nov. 26th
SOMERVILLE – Logic would have it that Santa should be at The North Pole, busy with his trove of elves putting the finishing touches on children’s gifts, overhauling the sleigh and making sure the reindeer are fit and ready for their big night. "
Apparently, Santa and the crew have been working overtime, because Santa Claus is coming to town one month early, and it looks like he’ll be hanging around Somerville for the next few weeks.
The Somerville Business & Professional Association will host several visits from Santa Claus in the weeks leading up to Christmas as well as live entertainment throughout the holiday season and carriage rides down Main Street.
Santa will be at TD Bank, 50 W. Main St. on Dec. 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd, all Thursday nights, from 6-8 p.m. where children can visit and give Santa their Christmas gift wish list. Santa will also be at the bank Dec. 3rd and Dec. 10th, both Saturdays, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Free photos will be taken of the children with Santa during each of those six visits. Everyone is asked to bring a donation of canned goods which the SBPA will deliver to area food banks.
Santa will also make a stop in Somerville on Dec.17th for lunch at Central Pizzeria, 126 W. Main St., from noon-3 p.m.
Roving Carolers, musicians and other live entertainment will be featured downtown Somerville throughout the Christmas season, beginning Saturday, Nov. 26th, when the Somerville Holiday Jubilee kicks off with the annual tree lighting ceremony on the lawn at Borough Hall, 25 West End Ave., preceded by the arrival of Santa Claus at 5:30 p.m. on a fire truck accompanied by Somerville’s volunteer firefighters.
Families are urged to arrive beginning at 5 p.m. for the tree lighting. This will also be the first of several nights where visitors can take free carriage rides on Main Street, between 6-9 p.m.
Free gingerbread cookies will be handed out to the kids, courtesy of the Dessert Plate, 34 E. Main St., with free hot chocolate served at the Giardina Walkway. Stores and restaurants will be open late.
Live holiday music will be performed by carolers strolling the streets every Saturday and some Sundays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through Christmas Eve.
In addition to the free carriage rides sponsored each Friday night by the Downtown Somerville Alliance, the SBPA will host free carriage rides on Saturday, Dec. 3rd, 10th and 17th from noon-2 p.m. on Main Street.
